Artificial Intelligence and the Fourth Industrial Revolution
July 21, 2024
In our upcoming masterclass, one of the key domains we will explore is artificial intelligence, or AI. While AI is often defined narrowly, our discussion will broaden to encompass the Fourth Industrial Revolution, or IR 4.0. For a long time, it was unclear which technology would become the new steam engine, assembly line, or personal computer. Connectivity, 3D printing, and virtual reality were all contenders. However, in the last two years, it has become evident that the leading technology in this new era is AI.
Technology AI brings with it significant challenges. Recent incidents, such as the Microsoft outage caused by updates, have highlighted how sensitive our world has become to technological disruptions. This isn't new; in 2021, Facebook experienced a significant outage. We have also seen how technology was leveraged in elections by both Obama and Trump. In Ukraine war, cyber warfare has been a prominent feature. Even in Curaçao, hackers have targeted ministries and the central bank. Our new society is not as secure as we might have hoped.
However, the conversation extends beyond IR 4.0 to the concept of Society 5.0—a human-centered society. We can lead by fostering human-centric organizations and societies. This means shifting our focus from individualism to collectivism, where technology serves humanity and enhances humaneness rather than detracting from it.
This intriguing discussion will be part of our masterclass on September 19 & 20, 2024. Do not miss out—register now at www.universityofgovernance.com.
