Think! The Illusion of Thought and the Need for Change
June 18, 2024
Think! Many believe they think, but the reality is that even those who believe they are thinking are often not allowed to truly engage their minds. People at the top of the hierarchy are not hiring smart individuals to receive guidance from them. Instead, if they do hire intelligent people, it is merely to enhance their status and to boss these so-called professionals around. The professionals buy into this because the pay is good. As a result, we have become an island where there is little genuine thinking.
Former Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath once said, " We lack denkcapaciteit" (thinking capacity). At the time, I was very angry with him, arguing that we do have brain power but simply do not use it. However, over time, I have come to realize that he may have been righter than I initially thought.
Organizations are like bodies. There is supposed to be a brain steering the apparatus. In our case, there is no brain actively steering and communicating with the body, meaning the body is paralyzed and in a vegetative state. This leads to low productivity and high costs.
The solution is clear: we need to reactivate both the brain and the body. We need a brain transplant. This metaphorical brain transplant means fostering a culture that genuinely values and utilizes intellectual capacity. We must encourage true thinking and decision-making at all levels. Only then can we move forward and achieve meaningful results. Have a heart.
